I'm a Catholic, homeschooling mom of 6 (including my son who is at West Point), married to my HS sweetie. I enjoy political debates, religious discussion, and have carved out this spot on the web to put little Pieces of Me. :) Enjoy!

How big is a million?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to explain to a kid how big a million is? Well, I was having difficulty with that but I did what I always do and went to Usborne - I sell them after all. :) They have this book with a poster full of one million stars - it amazed even me.

You can see the book here: How Big Is A Million

Here is a peek inside:

Now I know this may seem like just another commercial but this book I really did want to share just because it solved a problem for me. I really did not want to have to collect pop tabs etc. to get to a million. This poster is huge... and amazing, but it hangs flat on a wall. :)

This is the full poster (well, with the exception of the 4" hidden by the bench).

This is one of the squares made by the folds. See the one star there? Well, the rest of that square is filled with little tiny white dots. I could not get a closer picture of that with my camera... There are ONE MILLION stars on that poster. :)

This sparked a discussion in my house, so what is one Trillion? Because of course we are hearing how the country is trillions of dollars in debt. I'm no mathematician, it took us 10 minutes before we had it solidified in our heads - the little kids couldn't get it. It is just so incomprehensible.

Summer fun. Sparked by a simple book, written for the very young. :)
