About Me

My Photo
I'm a Catholic, homeschooling mom of 6 (including my son who is at West Point), married to my HS sweetie. I enjoy political debates, religious discussion, and have carved out this spot on the web to put little Pieces of Me. :) Enjoy!

Love one another?

Wow, so this weekend was something else. I spent some time with some friends doing a joint garage sale. My most successful ever, btw. I stuck my foot in my mouth a few times, not all that unusual for me I'm afraid. Had some good conversation, and a few laughs. All in all it was good.

I did find out one bit of news that kind of put a damper on my mood though. Did you know that the Catholic Church was/is responsible for just about every massive piece of destruction in the last couple of hundred years? Killing Lincoln, and Kennedy, 911, The titanic? You name it we've done it.

Of course I don't believe it. Just in case you started to worry about me a little. But at the garage sale I got my hands on a little book called The Secret Terrorists by Bill Hughes. He describes all of the horrors of the Catholic Church and tries his best to make the connections fit. Mindless babbling really.

So why am I so fired up about it? Well, because some people believe everything they read. But there are some serious problems with this little publication. There is not ISBN # - usually meaning it is a free give away book from this fanatic, the publishing house is Truth Triumphant Ministries and only has a PO Box address for getting a hold of them. I tried to find out which "faith" this ministry was from and the closest connection I could find was to the Seventh Day Adventist, but I will do more looking to see if they will really claim this person as one of their own, maybe he just broke from them? I don't really know.

But that brings me to my point. I write things that may be controversial, I have my own opinions about things, I do believe in a right and wrong, and I have a set of standards I think people ought to live by, but there is always room at the bottom for people to leave me comments or ask me questions for clarification, and I will do my best. I don't hide behind a PO Box. I will leave comments up that ask hard questions of me, I will answer them. Frankly the only comments I will not allow are hateful vile comments filled with foul language and name calling. Even then, if they have something intelligent to discuss I will allow the comment to stay after the language has been cleaned up.

I am hoping that IF anyone should run across these types of things that they read them with the same kind of disdain that I did. Understand that, yes I believe that it may be our job to try and place the truth of Jesus Christ in the hands and hearts of others but going at someone or some religion with a hate filled heart is not really going to be effective. Remember that Jesus spoke to and befriended and healed people in his time that others found to be the lowest of the low. He has commanded us to do the same. Love and compassion are going to be the tools that will work to bring about any change in those around us and Love and compassion are going to be the tools that will allow us to live up to our full potential as Christians.

In the meantime, I will pray for Bill Hughes and any who have fallen for his brand faith. Even the most lost soul can be saved through the Grace of God, by the blood of Jesus, and by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Peace be with you on this glorious Sunday morning!

I understand and agree with you! I've come across little publications and websites like that over the years, and they disturb me just as much as you. I recently about flipped my lid because Whoopi Goldberg managed to slip inaccurate statements about the Catholic church into a Jimmy Fallon interview. I've seen clips of her, Joy, most of the others on The View doing the same thing on the show. The sad thing is that as much as intelligent people know to take the rantings of celebrities on tv with a grain of salt, there are many, many people who hear what comes out of their mouths and the mouths of others (like Oprah - *gag*) who sit there dumbly accepting it and then passing it on.

We have to pray, pray, PRAY about the attacks on our Faith. Pray for those making the attacks, pray for those who blindly trust the ones making the attacks.
